Octavo in full leather; hardcover; 311 pp. Tight binding; a few previous owner pencil marks to front endpapers, else interior clean throughout; corners and bottom edge moderately rubbed; head and foot of spine chipped; ¼” split to bottom of front joint; some front hinge separation, though binding tight as stated above. Overall Very Good condition.
Contains numerous fold-out illustrations of microscope components and “animalcules”, or microscopic animals.
Henry Baker (1698-1774) was a prominent natural philosopher who worked with John Cuff, an instrument maker, to significantly change microscope design in the mid-18th century.
