A foundational German text on coastal engineering and dike building by Albert Brahms. This second edition is a true landmark in the history of hydraulic engineering and includes calculations and copperplate illustrations. The author, Albert Brahms, was a dike judge in the Land of Wursten who utilized his 36 years of experience and mathematical knowledge to create this manual. The text addresses the construction of dikes, sluices, and canals specifically to withstand the force of "sea floods" (storm surges) such as the catastrophic flood of Christmas 1717. It is considered the first work to apply scientific rigor to the traditional art of dike maintenance. Printed in Fraktur script. Text in German.
